Latest YouTube “500 Subscribers” Monetization Rule

Keynote

The YouTube 500 subscribers rule allows you to apply for the YPP once you have 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the past 90 days, and 3 million views on public shorts in the past 90 days. If you don’t have 3 million views on public shorts, you can still apply. But you’ll need 3000 public watch hours in the past 12 months.

I come bearing good news! If you’re a small creator, this new YouTube “500 Subscribers” Monetization update is definitely for you.

YouTube’s recent update has made it easy for you to monetize your channel faster. You no longer need 1,000 subscribers to join the YouTube Partners Program. Now you can apply for the program with 500 subscribers, and 3000 public watch hours.

Read on to discover all about the recent YouTube “500 Subscribers” monetization rule.

What Is the Latest YouTube “500 Subscribers” Monetization Rule?

Before now, creators needed 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours or 10 million public Short views to apply for the YouTube Paid Partnership Program.

However, with the recent update, to make money from YouTube, 500 subscribers is the benchmark. This may seem daunting for a new creator, but it is achievable. Once you’ve figured out how to get 500 subscribers on YouTube, you’ll also need:

  1. Three public videos uploaded in the last 90 days
  1. 3 million YouTube Shorts views in the last 90 days
  1. If you don’t have 3 million YouTube Shorts views, you can apply with 3,000 watch hours

According to YouTube’s blog post, when you apply for the YouTube Partner Program, you’ll gain access to fan funding features like Channel memberships, Super Stickers, Super Thanks, and Super Chat. You’ll also be eligible to promote your products using YouTube Shopping.
For now, this feature is only available to creators in the U.K., U.S., South Korea, Canada, and Taiwan.

Does This Cover YouTube AdSense Revenue?

Unfortunately, this new development only gets you in the program (YPP), it doesn’t apply to YouTube AdSense, i.e. if you’ve only 500 subscribers, YouTube will not grant you access to AdSense Revenue.

The lowered entry requirements only grant you access to fan-funding options. To be eligible for ad revenue, you need to grow your account to 1,000 subscribers, and 10 million Shorts views or 4,000 watch hours.

On the bright side, you only need to apply for YPP once; once you’re in, you’re in!

You won’t need to reapply when you reach the requirements for AdSense — simply unlock the revenue tools available to you.

Does The Latest “500 Subscribers” Monetization Rule Benefit Small Creators?

The YouTube Monetization “500 subscribers” update is a great opportunity for new creators to make money from their craft. However, fan funding features are only profitable for small creators who have an active and bustling community.

Furthermore, it’ll take more than 500 subscribers to make a tangible profit from fan funding. Usually, only a percentage of a channel’s subscribers actively engage with its content. And of this percentage, a smaller percentage are active “customers.”

To make the best of the YouTube 500 subscribers YPP update, you’ll need more subscribers and an authentic community.
