Meta’s AI Lands in Europe: Will Anyone Trust It?

Keynote

Meta AI is now available in Europe after months of delay due to GDPR concerns. Powered by the Llama 3 model, Meta AI works inside apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook, offering real-time answers, creative prompts, and image generation. While it doesn’t have memory or advanced assistant features yet, Meta has promised to prioritize user privacy by only using public content and seeking consent for personal data use.

Artificial intelligence is now part of our daily life and the most recent update about it is Meta AI! Meta is planning to make their AI feature accessible to the residents of Europe.

After a few months of delays caused by GDPR, Meta’s AI assistant is now live. It is driven by the company’s own Llama 3 model and works with the apps that people use every day without any problems. Just like any other AI assistant, you can get real-time answers, creative prompts, and even image generation all inside your feed.

Why the Delay?

The European Union takes privacy very seriously, and Meta’s plan to use user data to train its AI did not go over well there. After a fight with regulators, Meta agreed to only use public material and promised to ask users before getting to any personal data. That was a smart move, especially after all the bad press they got earlier this year.

What Does Meta AI Actually Do?

Meta AI is built into Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger. Similar to Grok from X. You do not need to download anything or launch a separate application. It just exists within the apps you already use on a regular basis.

However, don’t expect any personal assistant such as making weekend plans or so because Meta AI does not currently have any memory.

Will Anyone Trust Meta’s AI?

Meta AI will only work in Europe if people trust it and find it useful. Europeans are becoming less trusting of Big Tech and data collection and Meta is aware of security measures. This time, they’re being extra careful with their data.

That being said, Meta AI can be very advanced and follow the rules, but if it doesn’t feel helpful or sends too many strange suggestions to people, it’s game over.
